Buy a New Jeep Vehicle in Erie PA

We all know that one of the major reasons why people get behind the wheel of a Jeep, especially the Wrangler, is because they are searching for a vehicle that can handle all of their adventuring needs. Today, right here at Gary Miller CDJR, we are doing everything in our power to share with our customers the joys of off-roading, right alongside the kind of rules that you need to be following, too. One of the best things about off-roading and hitting the trails is all of the different people you will meet. But let's face it, this can also be a pretty dangerous activity, especially if you are new to the game and unsure of what you should be looking out for. We want to go through at least ten different rules you should be following while behind the wheel of your Jeep. Stay safe out there!

What are 10 Off-Roading Rules to Follow?

  1. Appropriate Gear: The first major rule that we want all of our customers to follow is that you need to make sure that you personally are wearing the correct gear. While we will get to your Jeep and the safety involved with your vehicle, that doesn't stop the fact that your own body needs to be secure individually from the rest of the equipment. We highly recommend getting a helmet, sturdy shoes, relatively thick clothing, and that the seatbelt is in perfect working order. None of your adventures will matter if you aren't taken proper care of.
  2. Get Jeep Inspected: Are you ready to take your Jeep out on the trails? Before you even start planning out your route, we highly recommend bringing your Jeep into our service center. Here we can have our certified technicians take a closer look at your model to make sure that it is in perfect working order. There is nothing worse than taking any vehicle out, thinking it's in good shape, and a major issue occurring. We'll make sure that we catch any issue that could impede a weekend out in nature.
  3. Know the Trail: Your Jeep has been inspected, and you're confident that it will last no matter where you are headed. Now is the time to really focus on the trail that you want to go on. We highly recommend doing your research ahead of time, including a better understanding of the terrain that you will be dealing with, along with any other challenges that will be present. This could just include knowing that there will be mud or rocks involved, or perhaps there's a part of the trail that tends to give people problems. The better you are aware of the circumstances, the better decisions you can make.
  4. Use Correct Tires: A huge rule that we will always tell our customers is that they should never be off-roading without the right equipment. In this case, that includes a very real focus on having the appropriate tires for your Jeep. Not only that, but you need to make sure that they are inflated to the correct PSI, which provides you with the best stability and traction possible. You can't expect to fully enjoy these adventures without a vehicle that you can rely on.
  5. Utilize Low-Range Gears: Should someone be new to the off-roading scene, we really recommend that you take things slow. This is the time to take a cautious approach, and we mean that when shifting gears, too. Every single rocky terrain and steep incline presents its own unique challenges for your Jeep. While you should always be shifting into the right range, you should also know your own limits. So, play it safe, and make use of the low-range gearing and four-wheel drive that your model will boast.
  6. Safe Speed: We have yet to address a huge rule that all off-roading drivers need to follow. Maintaining the right speed. The faster you go on trails, especially ones you aren't as familiar with, the more dangerous of a game you are playing with your vehicle and your life. That's why we always recommend that you practice safe driving by going only as fast as you absolutely need to in order to tackle the next roadblock. Staying in control means staying within a reasonable speed limit.
  7. Distance: Many trails, especially if they are popular ones, will have other people on them. A huge rule to follow is that you need to stay not only a safe distance from them, but wildlife, and major obstacles. Safety is always taking precedence, and you are not the only person affected during these journeys. Keep in mind that people and wildlife are out there, too, and you do not want to be responsible for any accidents.
  8. Don't Damage Environment: Even while you are out having fun in your safe Jeep, that doesn't mean that you don't have to think about what is going on around you. When you are out in nature, you need to respect the environment that is around you. That means you should be staying on designated trails, and never disturb wildlife habitats. We all want to have fun, but there are limits to that, especially if you are causing more harm than good during these journeys.
  9. Bring a First Aid Kit: Being prepared is never a bad thing. Anyone who is out in the wilderness needs to be aware that anything could happen at any given time. That's why we highly recommend always having a first aid kit in your Jeep, along with things like food and water, should anything happen. This is a simple rule that could save someone's life.
  10. Follow Regulations: The final rule that we want to leave you with is to always follow the local signage and regulations. Every trail is going to have different rules to follow, and different counties, cities, and states will vary, too. You need to research ahead of time and make sure that you are not breaking any regulations that have been made.
