The initial iteration of Ram pickups emerged in the 1981 model year, christened as the Dodge Ram 150. Although Dodge had previously employed the "Ram" label for previous Dodge models, it did not attain official status until 1981. Meanwhile, Dodge continued its production of minivans, SUVs, and cars. Under the hood, the fifth-generation Ram 1500 lineup is anchored by a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine, complemented by optional choices such as the 5.7-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6.
